Alpine’s Most Famous & Photographed Tree – The Old Oak in Wright’s Field – Has Fallen

February 5, 2015 Back Country Land Trust posted on it’s Facebook page that the large, old Oak tree that has stood in the grasslands at Wrights Field in Alpine for years – possibly the most “famous” tree in Alpine – certainly the most photographed – has finally fallen over during one of our recent windstorms. Yesterday they visited the snag with students from Joan MacQueen, to discuss wildlife, ecology, and the importance of standing dead trees for hunting raptors and nesting birds, and as a food source for insects and other small critters.
