Alpine Youth Center Zoning Issues Force Kids to Play INSIDE ONLY

UPDATE: February 28, 2014 – “Thank you all for your support and interest. We had approximately 60+ people show up in favor of the youth center and 2 on the opposing side. Much evidence and statements were made on behalf of both sides, however, the alpine youth center got a unanimous decision in their favor. The ACPG will be sending in a recommendation to the county staring that they want the youth center to remain where it is and allow the outdoor activity. Thank you all who contribute to the interests of the youth center, we are truly blessed to accommodate so many kids and families in our community.”  – Joseph Vanderbuilt, Alpine Youth Center

Tonight at 6pm the alpine youth center will be going before the alpine planning group to try and get a variance for zoning. As of this point we are not zoned for outdoor activities and the county has forced us to keep the kids inside. This has had significant decrease in the number of kids showing up to the center. Located in the center of alpine (2153 Arnold Way (next to Jimmy’s Restaurant, just east of the Post Office) The center is a nonprofit and is free to any and all kids that want to come.

We need the support of the community at tonight’s meeting to ensure the kids have a safe place to go so they are not wondering the Boulevard and have access to free supervised activities. (Learn more about the Alpine Youth Center here)
